Developed by Dr. B.J. Devine in 1974 for drug dosage calculations. It later became a common reference-weight estimate.
Robinson (1983)
Developed by Dr. J.D. Robinson in 1983 using regression analysis of Metropolitan Life Insurance data. Gives values close to Devine.

Why Does Ideal Weight Differ Between Men and Women?
At 184 cm the four formulas give men about 5.6 kg more than women, because each formula uses different constants for men and women, derived from historical height–weight data (on average men carry more lean and bone mass). The BMI-based healthy range is the same for both sexes at the same height.
